Editing analysis

Film Analysis

In the movie 'The hunger games' the editing of the tracker jackers scene is very good in highlighting the different types of editing techniques that are used. Firstly when this scene starts, it begins with a lot of continuity to continue all the action that is occurring. These different shots are very important as they show what's happening and what's going on. Different shots are used when Katniss is cutting the hive full of wasps to escape. These shots show her cutting the hive whilst having couple of wasps come up on her face and show her getting irritated. All thee shots are important in continuing the scene whilst showing what is actually going on.

Cross cutting is also used in this scene from when she is cutting the wasp hive to when theres people sleeping directly down of the tree. It jumps from showing Katniss cut the hive to 2/3 people sleeping down the forest. The pace starts to speed up from slow when she starts to cut the hive to going really fast as she gets closer and closer to finishing the cutting of the hive. The cross cutting and the speed duration edit is very effective in making the scene very suspenseful and more dramatic to watch.

Another editing technique that is used is an insert shot. This is insert shot used below is also a close-up shot and it focuses on a specific thing/person. In this case the shot focuses on her and her face. The angle this shot is taken from changes from a medium shot to zooming in to make it a close up shot. The lighting of this shot is the same as the lighting throughout the scene which is quite dark and looks like it just rained. The setting of this whole scene matches the location which is a rainforest. This also links to another editing technique which is the time. The time of this scene looks like its filmed in the evening and it looks like its just about to turn dark.
